What is alpaca

The alpaca is a member of the Southamerican family of camelidae including the llama and the vicunia. It produces one of the finest and most exquisit natural fibres in the world. It is soft like cashmere, but seven times warmer; three times stronger and lighter than sheep’s wool.

There are two types of alpaca: the Suri, that has long and silky hair, and the Huacayo, that has short hair, but of an unusual fineness.

The alpaca has a nutrition of high protein thanks to the Ichu. This is a special grass that grows in extreme altitudes of the Andes where temperatures fall to -25° C. The Ichu disposes of a special protein that contributes to the silky texture and strength of the hair.
